Did I love this as much as I loved [book:Boyfriend Material|50225678]? Unfortunately, no. I still loved getting to read about Luc and Oliver and all of their fun, ridiculous friends. But the cast and the characters are what make this book; for me, the plot just kind of felt all over the place. I didn't mind reading about all of the wedding shenanigans, and we do get quite a lot of good character development for Oliver in particular. There was just something that felt off about it.

In all honesty, I wasn't quite sure what the main conflict was until the last couple of chapters, and then the book ended. There wasn't really a lot of resolution, and while the last scene is adroable and romantic, it seemed like there should be more after that scene. It didn't feel like a satisfying ending to me, and I just felt like it left a lot hanging in the balance.

However, a lot of the side cast gets to shine in this book and it's fantastic. If there's anything that Alexis Hall is good at, it's writing great characters. And moments of humor. So while I still prefer the first book, I'll keep reading about Luc and Oliver just because Alexis Hall has made me care about them. Because I'd love to see what's next for them!

I liked Boyfriend Material better. This book sees the characters two years later and more settled into their relationship. Some of the drama feels legit and needed, some of the drama seems forced to make a conflict happen at the right stage of the book. Because of some of this forced drama, I did not expect the book to end the way it did. Didn't love or hate the ending, it was just kind of like Ok well I guess this book is done. I am not disappointed I read it, it was nice having more time with these characters, and there are many highlightable lines and moments.

I was so excited for this sequel after loving Boyfriend Material, but this one fell flat. It was too long-winded for what was happening and very Four Weddings and a Funeral-ish with the constant weddings. There was very little chemistry between Luc and Oliver this go-around and I feel STRONGLY that Luc really needs to go to therapy because a lot of the issues in their relationship stem from Luc's anxiety and spontaneity and insecurities. And rather than seek help for that, he basically tells Oliver that's who he is and he has to just accept that, which isn't fair to the relationship.

I'm hoping the third book brings back the charm of the first because this one was really lacking it.

I received an ebook copy of Husband Material by Alexis Hall from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. As someone who has read multiple books by Alexis Hall over the years, this one was an amazing read that had an unbelievable amount of character growth. I enjoyed getting a second look at Luc and Oliver’s relationship and can’t wait for more books set around their friend group. The plot flowed nicely and allowed for more exploration of Luc’s friend group. Furthermore, there were many memorable quotations throughout the book that helped lighten up some of the more emotional sections of the book. Overall, I highly recommend this book!
