I loved every page Anjum was in.
I was not mentally prepared for Kashmir.

I listened to the audiobook, and while it was nice to have the author narrate their own material, this was a slog of a book. It was too long. There’s an entire section where Roy goes through the entire alphabet naming the corresponding words. Not to mention dropping the n-word a few times (I don’t think I would have had such a strong reaction to it, but since she, herself, is the narrator, it was jarring).
I did find her description of the current PM of India quite entertaining (which makes you realize why the current government is going after her). Roy is a beautiful writer, but I didn’t care for most of the characters. She adds background information on the politics and culture of India to make the readers understand the characters, and I would have preferred more of that.
