This book was a hot mess.Thea waited for 12 years for Ramsey and he treated her like trash and she just take it. Plus him and sister lied her for years...I didn't like any character at all.

This was dark and not in the kinky sense. The majority of this relationship was so painful that we only got a little sliver of them being happy together (bar the epilogue).

I loved the story but I would have loved to see their reconciliation take up more of the story than what we got.

I also would have loved to have been shown repairing of (side) relationships in the this story rather than being told.

Not your typical love story...

I really liked this book. It wasn't too dark, but the content wasn't all "hearts and butterflies" either. There love story was unique, and aside from their rough experiences, semi-realistic. The relationship between characters is deep, and I found myself smiling at their teasing and banter. Pleasantly surprised, and very happy to have given this book a shot!

I’m not typically a fan of friends to lovers or childhood lovers, but I think Martinez changed my mind. I also don’t like flashback chapters, but in this case that was my favourite part of the book. It was so sweet reading the very beginning of how they met and fell in love.

One issue I do have, I think that Thea was upset about Nora and Ramsey’s secret for the wrong reasons. She definitely had a right to know what actually transpired considering she played a major part in it. But that wasn’t why she was upset, she was upset because Ramsey was in prison instead of Nora? It made absolute sense for his character that he would take the fall for his little sister and it bothered me immensely that she couldn’t recognise that.

Everyone needs a Sparrow and/or a Ramsey in their world.

Sometimes it's hard to put into words the way a book moves you. Other times the feelings just flow. Release made me a mess of feelings. Silent tears running down my face at 2 AM while I fought the urge to let the crying be heard (my sleeping husband would not have appreciated my emotional release at that time in the AM).

This book left me confused which emotions to feel first, which to allow to fester, and which should be allowed to duke it out for the first place title. The overwhelming answer in the end was joy but getting there [blows out a long hard exhale] it is hard to list them all. Fear. Anger. Love, so much love. Happiness. Rage.

The story of Ramsey and Thea is intense. The meet cute is unlike any other and 100% perfect for this dynamic duo. With bruised hearts bigger than their bodies, these two children (and layer as adults) capture the spirit of evrything wonderful while their lives are less than ideal.

Everyone needs a Sparrow and/or a Ramsey in their world.
