If you're thinking about getting a dog, or are looking for a book on raising your furry companion, here are three reasons why this is easily the best book to get!

1. Excellent companion videos. Zak produces highly polished and easily followable videos on YouTube.

2. Zak's message is one of love and respect for the dog. Unlike a lot of dog trainers, he does not advocate cruel, unnecessary techniques like choke collars, prong collars, or other things that cause harm.

3. This book is based on modern science and dispels common myths. For example: you know the idea of treating a dog as a wolf and establishing alpha dominance? Total myth. In fact, the researcher who originally published these findings is fighting to have his publications removed.

Great book for someone new to owning a dog or getting into training one.
It's a good idea to also follow his Youtube channel, for more visual guides or refresh specific areas when you need them.

Modern positive reinforcement training for new dog owners. A little basic, and a little light on science but, absolutely essential for noobs or old timers who need a brush up how to do it right. What I really appreciate is how George lays out what is wrong with old techniques in a simplistic way that doesn’t make you feel guilty for having learned something incorrectly, but explains why it’s wrong. I’d recommend this to anyone thinking of getting a dog.

Great book on how to train your dog!

His approach is much better than others I've heard of, and I appreciate how he prioritized the relationship you have with your dog over everything else. I also liked how it gave me the freedom to flip to what best suited my needs instead of relying on reading straight through. (I still did though!) The accompanying videos you could access from his YouTube page really helped as well. I'm more of a visual learner, so these were great! I'm already recommending him to people wanting to train their dogs.

Very positive and thorough dog training book.

Simple and easy to apply when training a new puppy.

Absolutely amazing and invaluable. I've been following Zak for a couple of years and watched lots of his videos, but this book really summarises it, ties it all together and is a great reference.
Highly recommend!

Finally finished this one a year later. It’s a basic guide, but the last few chapters are the most helpful for training.
