Feminine rage is my jam, especially when it involves an "unlikeable" woman main character. The unlikability is their strength and what makes me connect to them. This unlikable main character talked too much, their assumed promiscuity was too much and they just didn't give a flying fuck about what anyone thought of them. The vulnerability of the character was heartbreaking because as much as they didn't care, it still hurt. Pushing that aside for revenge created a fast-paced thriller that kept you guessing who wanted to snuff out this strong, fierce woman cause they wouldn't bend to anyone's will. The title caught my eye, and it was a pleasant read that I would recommend.

I agree that there’s potential here and maybe if it had been polished, the story would be better. The plot is interesting, and Annie and Maura’s friendship is /to me/ super interesting and I wish we had seen more of it. Sam is /okay/. I didn’t feel the connection between Sam/Annie really, and the book felt slow paced for the first like 13 chapters. Maura seems like she should’ve made a bigger part of the book -even more because the plot moves so fast after we finally meet her. Annie being dead and alive at the same time was interesting but idk if i loved the idea. Either way it was an interesting read.
Phenomenal!!! this is one of the best feminine rage horror books I have ever read! I absolutely loved the story the imagery and the characters! I love Annie Lane so damn much. The last 60 pages is what made this book 5 stars for me when it all unfolded and you found everything out wow just wow!!!!
This pains me so much, but this was unfortunately a DNF at 30%.
The positives:
* The title and cover are epic! five stars!
* I love a vengeful bitch. Nothing brings me more joy than reading about righteously furious women exacting (ideally bloody) revenge on terrible men. *ESPECIALLY* when that character is an angry teenage girl who everyone underestimates.
The negatives:
* I didn't love how long it was taking Annie to figure out what was going on - like by 30% she had still not quite caught on to the situation. It didn't gel with how smart and scrappy she seemed to be.
* The major thing that made me give up on this book was the dialogue, especially the way Sam talked with his nonstop weird (50s?) lingo. It was clearly a stylistic choice that the author made and fully committed to, which is fine, but for me it was super distracting and kept pulling me out of the book because it was so awkward and cringey.
Anyway -- a LOT of early reviewers have loved this book, so I appear to be an outlier. I hope it finds its way into the right hands because the world needs more books about "unlikeable" female characters wreaking havoc.
* Thanks to Disney Hyperion for the NetGalley review copy. Here Lies a Vengeful Bitch publishes August 6, 2024.

with a cover/title like that, we really need more wrath. the pacing of this was all over the place. i did like the found family though. you may or may not like this - this is a three star review, what can i say?
This book was as heartbreaking as it was vengeful and I love love love when a gorey ghost novel can have me crying by the end 😭
As we follow Annie Lane on her path to justice in finding out who murdered her, we get to know her absent mother, shitty (10000%) ex, her best friend who may have left on a bad note, and her new ghost friends that help her understand how to exist in limbo and what her limits are 👻
This story was truly unique and I’d love to see it get adapted to the screen someday!!
