It was sweet, but not nearly as sad as everyone said it was.

Very well written; excellent story telling. Told from the perspective of a sixth-grade boy. I appreciated that the book really did feel like it was being told from his perspective, but did not skip over deep or difficult issues.

Words cannot express how much I love Gary D. Schmidt's books. Opening a new Schmidt has become a sacred experience for me, a moment to be treasured and savored. I don't know how he does it, but he sucks me into his world right away, takes my heart in his hands, and won't let go. Orbiting Jupiter is no exception. And oh, the tears I've cried over this book. It's been hours since I finished the book and I still can't put into coherent words how much I love Joseph and Jack. Just thinking about them makes me start sobbing all over again.

Just finished rereading the book, and it affected me just as much the second time. This is such a heartbreakingly beautiful book.
