Short story about a woman whose text gets used by someone for their own ends. Some of the dialogue felt a little stilted to me but the story works fine.

MOMOBOOKDIARY REVIEW

I have not managed to read anything by Claire Douglas as yet so grabbed this short story and I am so glad I did.  It was a brilliant introduction to this very talented author.

This was a very thrilling twenty minutes full of suspense, twists and turns.  My only complaint was that the story ended way too quickly.

I have now borrowed Do Not Disturb from my local library and already started it!

A strong short story, wasn't a fan of the abrupt ending but will definitely read more by Claire Douglas

So much packed in to a short story. I don't usually read shorts, I find they can often be bland. This story grabbed my attention and didn't lose it

This wasn't a book so much as it was just 40 pages long. To me, these are the 'filler' books, the books I read when I'm trying to figure out what to read next.

The Text was short, and therefore the suspense hadn't been held for too long, though even then, I'd figured who was the culprit right from the beginning. It was pretty obvious to be honest.

But the writing style and the ending saved the story from ending up in a ditch. I liked the ending and I think that was it's saving grace.

So yeah, it was a fun read, but it's definitely not a favorite.

I hadn't realised this was a short story and possibly wouldn't have bothered if I'd known before downloading it. But I did read it in about 10 minutes.

The bones of it were fine, and there were several credible red herrings. Had it been a full-length novel, I imagine it would have been twisty and tense, but as with all short stories, they lack the depth and detail that really sucks you in.

As a short story, this hit all the right notes for me – limited but good character set, intriguing scenario and good pace.

Emily Latimer has been told by her boss Andrew (in Accounts) that he is not sure he can allow her time off during the upcoming long weekend, a week away. Emily and Yasmin (who works in HR in the company) carpool to work as they stay close to each other. Emily vents out her frustration as they are on their way back from work. She also quickly types text for her boyfriend Stuart (a microbiologist for a drugs firm) explaining the scenario. She accidentally sends it to her work group, and misspells one word, and the text now suggests she wants Andrew dead. Andrew is not in office the next day. Police visit her place in the evening and tell her that Andrew was stabbed & murdered, and question her about the message she sent out.

This is a well-paced read which kept me engrossed. Considering the format, the story does a great job of building context around Emily’s job, her relationship and friends. There is a twist involving Yasmin which I felt was unnecessary, but it does make a point as well. The reveal of the plot passes too quickly though and that is about the only thing I did not like about the story.

slow-paced

I liked it but the ending was a bit abrupt! One more page on the end would have been better
