The Text is a free kindle short story by one of my favourite authors. And that's also the only reason why I picked it up because I don't normally read short stories. I find them, wait for it, too short. . Just when you feel you're getting to grips with things, it's over. But did I mention this is Claire Douglas? I'll pretty much read anything she comes up with, to be fair.
Emily Latimer is angry at her boss, Andrew. She's planned a weekend away with her friends but Andrew is reluctant to give her the time off. On her way home, Emily fires off a text message to her boyfriend. But there's one gigantic typo and the text doesn't just get sent to her boyfriend, but to the entire office. And then Andrew turns up dead.
This scenario is particularly scary because it's so realistic and believable. We've all been there with the unfortunate typos, the annoying autocorrect and sending things to the wrong person. Now, at 40 pages short, you wouldn't expect much, would you? And yet, Claire Douglas manages to weave an intricate web, provide us with quite a few suspects and even a twist or two. So we have a thoroughly enjoyable mystery but most of all, it just leaves you wanting so much more and I'm very much looking forward to this author's next book!

2.5, really... The short story was just OK... I've read a ton of short stories which have blown me away. This one didn't quite hit the mark. The writing was a bit clunky... But... worth a read for the theme.

I felt quite let down by this book, if I'm being completely honest.
The ending was just too easy, the author built up the book so well it really gripped my interest but the ending ruined it. There was so much more that could have been done.
For a short story it packed a lot in and it certainly got my interest. I just wanted more from it, it lacked that spark.

What a great short story. Had me gripped from start to finish as Em tries to work out who the guilty party is after she sends a text inadvertently to 3 friends and work colleagues complaining about her boss Andrew. The thing is, the typo she makes is rather sinister.
If you love short stories or are looking for something well written to whet your appetite for a longer thriller, look no further than The Text. Loved it.

What can I say about this short little read?. I had heard and seen a lot about her books and thought I would check out this short book and see if I liked her writing and her style. The answer is yes!
This story shows how autocorrect can mess up your day when you’re rushing and don’t double check your message or your recipients. How one letter can change your entire meaning. But how it can open your eyes to the people around you. Even those closest to you.
I enjoyed this read and I enjoyed how the story was all brought together. How Claire Douglas wrote it and brought it everything together. It is short, and even though I’d have liked more it’s alright as it has given me a taste of what I can expect when I read some of her other more substantial sized books, and believe me I will be reading some.
