It's a 2.5 for this one. It would be a 2, and was only saved by the brief but gorgeous scenes including Anna and St Claire. Throughout the whole book I just didn't care about the characters and the central relationship seems really unhealthy. It didn't achieve the same realism as Anna and the French Kiss, the characters were not very relatable. Overall it was a disappointing ending to the series, but a very sweet conclusion to Anna and St Claire's story
this book is everything i didn't even know i NEEDED
i read it in 3 hours, i laughed, i cried, and i've really missed having so many feelings when reading something. i'm not even sure what about this particular story did it for me, but it did, and i am so incredibly grateful.
REREAD EDIT: i was very scared to reread this one because, as you can see, it really affected me the first time i read it, nearly five and a half years ago (JEEZ!!), but, in the end, i did still really like it, and it does remain my favorite in the series. i think that part of that had to do with the fact that anna and etienne appear in this one the least, because i think that this series as a whole really hinges on the reader really liking anna and etienne. tragically, this time around, i really couldn't stand them, so!!!
the bigger part of why this one seems to be the only book in this series that has any semblance of holding up for me is because it felt like the most realistic portrayal of a relationship. the time frame allowed for everything to play out in a realistic way, the fights and insecurities felt very real, and even though there were times i thought josh and isla were veering into cartoonish territory, their actions and motivations that were revealed swung around to balance everything out. i don't know. i was pleasantly surprised. and i really do feel like this is the happy ending to an otherwise lackluster (and, at times, problematic!) series.

A lovely resolution to a loosely connected trilogy. Stephanie Perkins is always so fun to read! I look forward to her next (horror!) novel because I can't wait to see her skill with character play out in a different genre.
3.5 to "Isla and the Happily Ever After". I rushed through this book like I did with the others. These books are light, easy and cute reads and I quite enjoyed reading them.
But I had some troubles with this one again. The main cause was Isla in the middle of the book, she really needed to get her shit together. I do get her insecurities, she is not that self-confident, she hasn't found out what she wants in life and she makes herself much smaller then she acutally is. I get that, I have that too. But seriously, she made up so many problems and didn't really think. But in the end she started to work on herself. I liked how that was described, it's a good message to the readers. But Isla's struggles where such a big part of the story and that's the reason I couldn't fully enjoy the book.
The best parts for me was Josh's memoir, it must have been fantastic, I'd love to see it. Josh himself was a really interesting character, he really made the story. And the ending was ... well, look at the title, it was really cute.
But I also wished that we'd see more of the old characters. I loved their appearance, mostly St. Clairs, he's the best character Perkins created.
Yeah, all in all I enjoyed the books, they were really cute and a great read when you just want to escape from a hectic life. Or book.

Melodramatic teens vs anxious attachment style (It was ridiculous but also still kinda sweet in a huge Werido! way)
Heerlijk boek om te lezen. Josh is mijn favoriete karakter van deze serie.
