This is the second book, following "Anna and the French Kiss." You don't have to have read the first book to read this one. The story stands alone, though they take place in the same fictional school and some of the background characters overlap. (I did like "Anna and the French Kiss" though, so I would recommend it too!) I actually liked this story better than the first one. It is a cute love story, but didn't feel as "fluffy" as the Anna book. Would recommend.
Updated review post-reread on 12/10/19: Don't tell Anna and Étienne, but Isla and Josh will forever be my favorites. Everytime I read this book, I feel positively gutted and hopeful and as if I'm the one in love. It's MAGIC.
WORTH. THE. WAIT. Every SECOND of it!
I devoured the ebook throughout the day and I'm now anxiously awaiting the physical copy's arrival so I can re-read it and relive it yet again!
I'll have to wait until the physical copy gets here to be sure, but I genuinely do believe that Isla easily tops Anna and The French Kiss as my favorite in the series now! I'm not sure whether it's because in many ways, I have been (and still am) Isla, or of it's because Josh is ridiculously passionate and the exact type of guy a girl like myself wants (although, really, aren't they all?), or if it was just because their relationship was like fireworks exploding across every single page. I personally never thought that Étienne could be topped in my heart, but seeing Josh from a different pair of eyes was wonderful, and I'm forever grateful for Stephanie writing what she saw in him that we couldn't see before!
Also, Anna and Étienne and Lola and Cricket's appearances in the story brought my heart such pure glee! Isla and the Happily Ever After was delicious and incredibly hard - a.k.a. nearly IMPOSSIBLE - to put down for a second! I can always count on these glorious love stories, and for that I thank Stephanie Perkins infinitely. This is by far one of the best series I've stumbled across in my life, and I'm eternally glad I found it. Definitely pick up Isla and the Happily Ever After at your local bookstore ASAP, because you do not want to miss out on this!

4 chocolate chocolate chip cookies.
Cover Love: I liked the other two covers really well (Anna and the French kiss and Lola and the Boy Next Door) and was kind of bummed they changed all three covers before this one came out. But I do like this one.
Why I Wanted to Read This:
I adored Lola and the Boy Next Door, Cricket was my favorite. So, I checked this one out from my public library to see if it would be as good. (I had not read Anna and the French Kiss at the time).
Romance?: Yes. Lots.
My Thoughts:
I have to say that I think I like YA romances a little better when the characters get together early on in the book so the book focuses more on them working through issues than simply getting together. Isla and Josh do get together early on in the book, so we get to see a lot of them working through problems and misunderstandings and finding a way to be together.

ALL CAPS WORTH IT
Loved it, Loved it, Loved it.
Isla and the happily ever after was way beyond what I was expecting
a totally new side of Josh and the love story was just perfect!
Stephanie has way out done herself

Perkins does it again. I LOVED "Anna and the French Kiss" and "Lola and the Boy Next Door". LOVED them. So I was so very excited to see her coming out with another book! And to know that my beloved St. Clair, Anna, Cricket, and Lola would be making an appearance. I can't even BEGIN with St. Clair and Anna's engagement! LOVE it!
So. Isla. It doesn't seem like much is going on at first. I mean, I was invested, but I sort of wondered where it was going to go since Anna and Lola's story was fraught with trouble from the start. The obstacles there were clear, the obstacles here not so much. I was strapped in though, and ready for the bumpiness.
It came and it made me weepy. Perkins is amazing at taking me to the brink of ecstasy or completely at ecstasy and then yanking the rug out from under me. But she always makes it all better.
I liked the journey that both Josh and Isla went through. I felt the tension and heartache was not as bad as in Anna and Lola, but I still had that hangover of "I don't want to leave this world" after it was done.

What can I say? I’m a sucker for Joshua Wasserstein and I relate to Isla more than almost any other character. A classic feel-good book that makes me feel both whisked away and right at home.
Umm so I'm really confused.
How did this book get a bunch of bad reviews!!??
I literally read all 700 pages in like 12 hours and was smiling and laughing out loud the ENTIRE TIME. Yes, the plot wasn't great. But TBH I've read so many romance books at this point that every plot has been done. More than twice. I have been ACHING for a story that is pure love and just fun times. UGH I LOVE THIS BOOK.
