This was a reread for me, and since the Anna book held up, I thought this one would too. But honestly it didn't. The characters (especially Isla) felt like they were only made to fall in love. She didn't have a personality and felt one-dimentional. And the side characters didn't matter to the story at all. But I love the atmosphere of both cities, and the school, though this book was way less atmosphereric than Anna. Even though this book wasn't fantastic I still read it super fast, in like 2 days, and it was so fun and nostalgic reading this, so that's why it's a 4 stars.
I cried. But mostly for the tying up of the previous two stories.
I'm not sure about my feelings... I have to give it some deep thoughts and hopefully I'll manage to get a re-read of the whole series before the end of the year to kind of connect everything in my mind and make a final decision on how I feel about this last book.
I hate this book because it made me happy while reading it. Yes. WHYYYYYYYYYyyYyYyy
Anna made me happy. Lola made me want to kill myself. Isla left me somewhere in between. Stephanie Perkins is an amazing writer, and I loved the descriptions of Europe. Having never been in love myself, reading teenage love-stories always leave me feeling empty, though.
Compared to Anna (one of the greatest YA books I've ever read) and Lola (also amazing), I had high hopes for Isla. While it was enjoyable, it took me awhile to get through. I think I was only really interested in reading because I wanted more glimpses of Anna and St. Clair. I found Isla and Josh hard to like and unlike Anna, Isla just wasn't as relatable.
However, the fact that Anna and St. Clair were in it at all made it get 4 stars.
