I picked this one up after reading (&LOVING) Lorna Cook's 2020 book, The Forbidden Promise. This one is a LOT harder to read, with the past timeline being full of some really really heavy things (content warnings abound: sexual, physical, and emotional abuse from a spouse).

Normally I find myself more drawn to the past timelines, but the heavy nature of this one forced me to be way more interested in the present day timeline (which there was thankfully more of - maybe the author knew we would need longer breaks?) I really liked both of the modern day characters, and thoroughly enjoyed watching their relationship develop.

There was a bit of a twist at the end - which I think was supposed to have more of an impact than it did - and, similar to The Forbidden Promise, I enjoyed her writing a lot. However, if I had to pick one book by her to recommend, it would definitely be The Forbidden Promise (SO. GOOD.).
