These swing from allegorical to language-ey. What saves the Kafka-esque allegories from being too symbolic is her writing style. There is something soft about it that doesn't seem too forceful. Even when it is, like in "Sweethearts". And the details are like inset diamonds. I think "Scratches" was my favorite story. But many of them were real good.
