This was a really romantic paranormal story and I highly enjoyed this story. The two main characters were interesting and I loved seeing their romance develop.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.

4.5 stars to this very new-to-me-author. I really enjoyed this story. It is long, it is lengthy, but the author put so much history into the book that it is well worth the read. Cedric is not only a demonic knight he's got the blood from some very famous blood lines. Having to choose a wife from a kings court because he wins a tournament is not in his plans, but he does. Little did he know that he's chosen another with more magic in her blood. They have a very rocky time of it until they are bound and figure out how to make their bindings work for them.

With histories of Vlad the Impaler, The Morrigan, Badbh the War Goddess, Romasanta the Father of Werewolves, Succubus Queen Lillith and others behind him Cedric is sure to have many, many battles ahead of him, and not just for his love.

Firstly, I just want to say that the writing in this novel is just amazing! I throughly enjoyed the style of writing and the details the author poured into this novel. I did find some of the details very annoying, only because I felt like they weren’t very necessary.

I also loved the chemistry between the two main characters. I didn’t really expect that they would work so well? I’m not really sure specifically what I was expecting there, but I do know it wasn’t that.

The only thing I truly hated about this novel was how Cedric was so abusive and always made Angeline cry. Like that really made me angry and just annoyed all at once. I can’t handle abuse and someone crying non-stop. That personally really got on my nerves and slowly made me lose interest in the novel.

This novel broadened my horizon in the fact that, I don’t read these types of books and I know for a fact this is not for me and that is the only reason this book was rated 3 stars from me. The writing style and the chemistry is what saved it from being a 1 Star. Such a talented writer! Just wasn’t my cup of tea.

This book was okay. The fantasy world was relatively basic and yet there were some aspects of it that didn't understand even now that I've finished the whole book. I feel like the magic system wasn't explained well enough so every time something new was introduced it was hard to see how it really fit in into the established system. I also thought that the last 30 pages just felt super rushed and unnecessary which made me leave reading it with a lukewarm taste in my mouth. Overall, it was okay.

I don't read a lot of Epic Fantasy, but the blurb for this one intrigued me. The story is Epic and fantastical, but it's also romantic. When we first meet Cedric, he isn't the most likable of fellows and I wasn't at all thrilled with the way he treats Angeline. Then, he tells his story and my heart broke for him. What follows is a slow-build love story.
The book is beautifully written and a wonderful mix of fantasy, legend, and historical fiction with some characters that we've all heard about and some other, not so well-known legends.

The Morrigan, demons, magic, and knights, Cedric the Demonic Knight by Valerie Willis had me sold with the synopsis. Then, I saw the cover and thought oh no, did I make a mistake? The cover didn’t grab me or sell me as much as the synopsis did. I put off reading it, thinking oh no, I have made a mistake. But finally, I picked it up and boy oh boy, is this another case of not judging a book by its cover. The writing is actually really great, as is the story!

The writing is incredibly solid and very reminiscent of typical high fantasy novels. It is structured and descriptive, but not overly so to the point where readers become bogged down or bored. The dialogue feels natural, but is a bit nasty for my taste. I know why the character speaks the way he does, but it doesn’t help keep me from cringing when he does and gets misogynistic.

The plot is also typical of fantasy. There is the overarching goal — destroy Morrighan. The distractions — beasts, discovery of self. The improbability of survival. Cedric, after accidentally acquiring a witchy blooded wife, is on a quest to destroy his makers. A father and a literal maker who designed his birth almost as though he were a lab experiment.

THE ROMANCE! Boy oh boy! I had read another book which I had to DNF and will not receive a review, but it was just sex that made no sense with no story just 10% in. This, on the other hand, was all teasing and no act. When the romantic interests finally give in to their passion, fade to black. Talk about sexual frustration!

This is a fantasy series, despite its drab cover, that really lives up to the genre and is a great read. I wholeheartedly recommend Cedric the Demonic Knight by Valerie Willis to readers that like a mix of Arthurian fantasy mixed with demons and witchcraft with a sprinkle of sex and romance.

Cedric the Demonic Knight is a paranormal romance and the first story I’ve ever read from author Valerie Willis. The first installment in a trilogy, Cedric took me on quite the journey through the realms of the supernatural.

A living oxymoron, Cedric is both cursed with his demonic creation while also hunting, fighting, and feeding off of other dangerous creatures with the good nobility of an honorable knight.

Upon winning a tournament, Cedric is awarded a lady of his choosing for marriage, and he picks Angeline. For her, all is lost. She is now wed to a monster with no hope of her happily ever after. For Cedric, a new battle emerges from within, and his life has changed from here on out. He initially intends to use her as bait when he comes face-to-face with evil once again, but before he can put that plan into place, she becomes something else to him.

The pair embark on a treacherous adventure to seek out and kill Cedric’s creator, Morrighan. For him, it’s a mission that will surely end in his demise, but with Angeline in his life, and his sudden need to keep her safe, he can’t help the struggle he feels for unknown emotions. Is he falling in love with the girl he married?

Angeline is not all she first appears either. The girl Cedric thought was so simple actually posses some magic of her own, traits swirling in her blood that she doesn’t quite understand. Together, she and her new husband have to learn to navigate their new life together.

When a threat forces the couple to consummate their marriage, therefor creating a bond, they begin to understand each other and their life together. When Cedric is injured, Angeline can feel it in her own body and vice versa. Their matrimonial binding allows them to feel one another’s pain and arousal which brings them so much closer in the face of obstacles and evils they encounter. Adding the intimacy to their relationship really brought Cedric and Angeline to a new level of adoration and possibly love for one another.

I really enjoyed the trip I took with these two, no matter how dangerous it seemed to be, both for them and for myself. I loved witnessing Cedric and Angeline develop and evolve as characters and as a couple throughout the pages of the story. The more I came to understand where each of them came from, and what I learned of their pasts, the more I appreciated and respected them as they chose to make their bond and marriage work.

Angeline and Cedric practically went to Hell and back for one another, and encountered almost every sort of mythical and supernatural creature in the process. With elements of history and folklore sprinkled among their fantastical world, Willis created a dark but magical and enchanting universe I couldn’t help but get lost in with the demonic knight and his beloved.

If you’re intrigued by the paranormal, or the legends of myth and make believe, or if you’re drawn to a tale of witches, demons, monsters, werewolves, and vampires, with elements of an epic romance mingled right alongside, then give this book a go! You won’t regret it!

Original review

This book was provided by the author in exchange for an honest review. Thank you Valerie Willis!

Cedric the Demonic Knight
tells the story of Cedric, who he is and why he’s so attracted to Angeline. Cedric the Demonic Knight is about Cedric and Angeline’s adventure, how they defeat several monsters as well as start to fall in love with each other.

Cedric the Demonic Knight is a paranormal book with a lot of paranormal creatures such as vampires, werewolves, zombies, succubi, incubi, witches, chimeras, … and a lot more. It was really cool that there were so many different kinds of paranormal creatures but I would’ve wanted a list of all the explanations of the different creatures. I was constantly thinking about what kind of creature the character was and from which history they came from. So a list of all the explanations would’ve been handy!

Besides the list, I also want to say that Cedric the Demonic Knight was a bit long-threaded. In the beginning of the book everything went really fast, but then the more I read the more I felt like it was a bit boring with unnecessary information. Don’t get me wrong, I really like the concept of this book with all the different kinds of creatures, but it would’ve been better if it was a tad shorter.

The main characters, Cedric and Angeline, were both a bit annoying. I really like that Cedric is a special kind of creature because he’s a mix of a moroi and an incubus, but it was a bit irritating that he always had to be rude to Angeline, and Angeline was crying all the time. I do want to say that there was a good character development, they slowly started to like – even love each other and they became better persons. Cedric started to accept what Angeline truly means to him and Angeline started to cry less and she became braver.

Cedric the Demonic Knight was an interesting read because of the different kinds of creatures and the good character development. I also liked that there were a few pictures of the creatures in the book! I always love pictures in a book because it gives something extra!
