This isn't a bad book, but I was bored by it. The dual timelines were hard for me to follow. I think this is probably a great and informative book, but I don't have the time to dedicate to it. I also saw it lauded as having "beautiful writing," and the writing style wasn't doing it for me.

The Map of Salt and Stars is sad, but warm and hopeful. The writing is livid and colorful, and I am always impressed when an author can accomplish that in the voice of a young character. This is one of the best books I read this year.
