I'm not doing a full review on these unless I do a series overview which would be posted to book 1's page but I just thought I'd mention that this book contains what could be considered minor transphobia. There have been multiple mentions of Mia's trans neighbour Ronnie but in this book they are debating whether a new student is male or female so that - in Shameeka's words - "I know whether to find him cute". Perin turns out to be female but why does that make her unable to be cute? Embrace the sexual fluidity.

anyways, lilly was unlikeable as always.
michael was also really annoying in this book
mia's great
go bestie, saving the environment or whatever

I liked this one much better than the previous books. Those were all a little too whiny for me. To be fair, they're pretty accurate as far as what a 14-year-old girl's journal would sound like, but still. I found them kind of exhausting.
I don't know what it was about this book that made it better than the others. Maybe it seemed like Mia is hitting her stride a bit more? Anyway, I powered through the previous ones because I felt like reading this series was a rite of passage I never completed, but now I'm actually interested to read the rest.

Well gosh darn Meg, you’ve done it again! Freakin adorable! And the speech?? Go Mia!! Her princess confidence is definitely kicking in! I was getting concerned at the end with how Michael was acting / what he said but he explained himself very well and was very adorable about the whole thing!! It’s cute that he knows her so well. The feminist in me wants to complain about him but I just can’t cause of the ending. Lily however…..still think she’s a terrible friend. I just KNOW things are going to blowup in the next book between her and Mia. I’m glad Mia acknowledges she’s a bad friend sometimes though cause gosh she’s sooo rude and selfish! I have mad respect for Mia for putting up with her!!

I loved it but i found the ending a bit rushed and left me very confused

there was definitely more character development for Mia in this book, and the fact that she progressively got more confident. I greatly appreciated. I also like that she is learning to find her own boundaries and working towards sharing those boundaries with others because I remember that time when I was in high school and that was not easy, but in hindsight, very helpful. This one has actually got me excited to listen to the next book in the series.

The Princess Diaries Book Club is an ongoing collaboration with my friend Cilla. We decided that we would reread this series, at our own pace, and always come back to our blogs and each other to discuss the story and how we feel about it now. If you are interested in joining us, please do!

Surprisingly, this installment of the Princess Diaries series went down much smoother than the others. There was still the problem of Lily, as she attempted to manipulate her way into the Student Council presidency through the nomination of Mia. But there was also a significant amount of growth here for Mia as she copes with a student government election, the question of whether Michael expects them to become sexually active now that he is a college student, and the repercussions of her environmental actions on the international level.

Mia has begun to open her eyes: as a princess she has a responsibility to think of how her actions and opinions will impact the Genovian people. She also realizes that the promises she makes to people in a government capacity mean something for her, and that she wants to take the responsibility. Whereas she usually obsesses over something with Michael until the last minute, this time around she told him how she felt. This is progress! This is what I have been waiting to see, if you have been following these book club discussions. This book made me look forward to the next one because there has to be more from here on out.

This continues to be good fun.

Sex, sex, sex. This book was basically all about Mia wanting to have sex, and it's just...ugh. Why must Meg Cabot always focus so much on sex in her books?
