Comprehensive look at all the ways our planet self destructs and all the ways humans destroy themselves. Everything you wanted to know about rising sea levels, ice ages, desertification, civilization collapse and other chaotic and devastating events! Probably not the best read for those with pervasive fears of imminent apocalypse, but extremely informative. Also made me a bit jealous of Child's apparent life of global exploration and adventure.

I’m trying to refresh my memory on the earth and space science I learned in college, because the past two years I’ve been teaching other subjects instead of what I’m actually certified in. And I’m sorry, but I’m not learning anything. I thought from the reviews this would be really engaging and interesting, but I keep finding myself distracted, and I’m bored.

Someone forgot that writing popular science takes effort and is not just a way to make tax deductable travels. Someone forgot that characters is brought to life by showing, not telling. Someone forgot that gaps in the science narration of a popular science book is not to be filled by inserting endless footnotes after each chapter, but should blend into the writing.
It is impressive, however, to write a book about science when you obviously did not study neither science nor scientific methods.
