Interesting subject that was clearly well-researched by the author and it made me reflect on my love for natural history specimens but I was disappointed by the ending, which fizzled towards the end.

This is a random but fascinating deep dive into a hobby I barely knew existed. The police work to solve the crime seems less than stellar in retro aspect, but it's a really interesting story.

3.5 stars.

Probably my favorite nonfiction book I’ve ever read, I’ll get back to you guys on that.

*update: yeah, so, this, Zeitoun, and Into Thin Air. This is by far the most fun nonfiction book I’ve ever read and I will now attempt to purchase a salmon fly (made of the cheap stuff, of course).

First half was great, informative and well-paced. The back half part of the author’s investigation was too low stakes and obsessive and didn’t keep my interest as well.

Wow, kicking off my 2019 list of books with a truly wild page-turner.

Mixed feelings. The story itself is pretty bizarre and interesting, but I didn't love the book itself. The author (at times) decides to treat it more like a personal memoir which I found distracting.
