My daughter and I read this together and it was a brilliant kids book that kept both my 5 year old and myself engaged, and eager to keep reading. Great mystery, fun characters and wonderful world building. A real delight.

This book was absolutely phenomenal, and I'll be buying anything Judith Rossell writes from now on. By the second chapter there were already such fun plot twists, and I absolutely adored the Institute and all the girls. The setup of the novel was really good, and I think she's set the world up really well for more books. My only complaint is that the ending felt a little rushed. Overall, it was so fun, and the illustrations were also gorgeous. I really hope she writes more books in this world.

A fantastic middle grade read. Think Harry potter (with steampunk rather than magic) combined with girls orphanage school being spies. Perfect for year 4-6. I didn't give it a 5 stars because I found it hard to keep track of the different girls, and thus I would have liked a little more character building before the plot got intense and there was girls running everywhere.
Was reading for work. while well written and quite good, there were others that were more important / higher on my TBR, and also it's not my type of book.

This is a brilliant, adventurous story of orphans which is complemented by sketches throughout the pages. Who says boys get to have all the adventures and team together against the bad guys?! girls can too! For fans of Lemony Snicket and feel good of old fashioned times.
