Wow. I mean, wow. I almost don’t know what to say. This book is an artwork. Despite not all readers coming from Islamic culture, this is a novel that speaks to women. I have never felt such anger, grief, and joy on behalf of a character as I did for Massoumeh. This book was 500 pages, but I could have read 500 more. I could follow her to the end of her life and still want to know more.
This book never had a dull moment. It was fast, and had so many layers of conflict at any given moment. With an expansive cast of chats gets, each one stood out as a unique person. Watching them all grow over a lifetime was astounding.
This was a tragedy all around, that hurts your heart but also burrows itself into it. This novel brings you tight into the folds of the world. Makes you love of hate characters with such a passion you’ll be thinking about them even after the book is closed. This was a masterpiece.
