Coup de cœur ❤️

I've had this YA delight on my shelf for years and have never picked it up! I was so pleasantly surprised with how much I liked it. A very well done stand alone that didn't flake on the world building just because it stops here. The end got a liiitle cliche but I honestly can't even blame her. Insanely unique as well. I'll be checking out more from this author for sure!

“Having something, even if in the past, is better than nothing at all.”

I read this book way back in 2019 when it was first released and remembered absolutely nothing about it other than that it had been a 5-star read because I loved it. Update: It was still a 5-star read for me. This book was SO GOOD. I love the fantasy murder mystery vibes and the world-building is so good considering it's a standalone novel. Despite having read it before, I didn't remember who the assassin was and found that I was actually quite taken off guard in the end...definitely didn't see it coming! The ending was also so tender and sweet. I'm glad this was as good as I remembered it being.

I loved this book so much! It wasn’t what I was expecting, at all, and that is in a good way. It kept me guessing until pretty much the end and the character development was just outstanding.

For me it was really hard to like the two main characters. This book had some good surprises, but some big let downs too, the main villain just felt flat and boring.

this had so much potential and it just fell so flat. the queens povs are interesting and decently written. the main character sucks. she isn’t a good person and i am not rooting for her at all during the book. the “love story” was also not very well done.

I was really looking forward to this one, but it was a disappointment. First of all, the whole faction, umm I mean quadrant, thing has never made a lot of sense. It's just a plot device that isn't really necessary here. Also, I was going along with the mystery until
Spoilerwe find out the villain is just some spoiled kid who has been plotting a quadruple assassination with another evil villain kid since they were 10 years old. What?! Also, no one really fought hard to keep her from seizing control. Oh, I guess we'll just let this random girl no one has ever heard of rule the entire kingdom. #no

3.75 I liked it, but I feel like some of the dialogue was off somehow. Some things were too convenient, some to unbelievable. Still, I'd read the sequel if there was one
