It wasn’t super high fantasy like i originally was concerned it might be.
It was fun and i really enjoyed the world and character dynamics. Plus, i liked how the queens’ deaths/murders were handled (i’m not listing that as a spoiler because it’s literally in the title).
However, the villain was so obvious and over the top. There were some other things throughout that i found tropey and predictable. But overall, a good mysterious low fantasy.

Scholte's first novel was intriguing. I liked her story line and it did have some unsuspecting mysteries.

Finally a YA fantasy novel which is not part of a series. I like that there’s not much bush whacking as it’s a stand-alone. Don’t have much patience for multi-book series.
I completely forgot what this book was about but I do remember the main villain had a big fear of water and drowning
