The only reason I give it 3 stars instead of 1 or 2 is the unique twist that I never saw coming. Otherwise it is a pretty dull book with many, many, plot holes. If you like twists and surprises like The Sixth Sense, It's worth your time. Otherwise I wouldn't bother.
Rock Paper Scissors is a readable thriller. The setting was very fitting - a remote converted chapel in Scotland during a snow storm - and the peeling back of the layers generally worked well. Alice Feeney earned her twists and turns with considered narratives and clear mysteries.
Unfortunately I couldn't bear the characters. Not in a 'love to hate' kind of way, rather 'if this person conveniently forgets about something that happpened one page ago one more time, I'm going to scream' kind of way.
Feeney also really leant into the dramatics with her writing. It was overwrought and I yet somehow I soon enjoyed her style for what it was. For example

"...and late is better than never. Sometimes the early bird eats too many worms and dies."
I'm not sure if it was the author's intention, but I had a lot of fun with this and other equally dramatic pronouncements. If you find the quote creepy however, you may exerience more tension in the story, which ultimatley would be preferable.
Overall, if you are looking for a thriller that's low on character and jeapordy but high on twists/reveals, then give this a go. There are worse thrillers out there.
