I loved the first book in this series and was pleasantly surprised to learn that another had been written. While I didn't enjoy it as much as the first, I still appreciated the characters and the atmosphere. It's a great winter read and full of heart and fun. Of course, thieves are the good guys -- at least some of them are -- so the lines between good and bad are a bit skewed, but there are positive themes as well and great imagination that intertwines reality and fantasy.

*There are a couple of instances of unnecessary mild swearing which is disappointing in children's fiction.

I really loved this read! I think there are some incredibly important reflections and lessons especially for it’s intended audience (but also great reminders for adults too). It definitely held my attention as I tried to guess all the mysteries and how they came together. I just had a great time and can’t wait to continue in this series.

We see Milo in the next winter where he is missing his friend and having a quiet Christmas with his family but then some old and new guests arrive at the greenglass house and things are complicated and this time it's his friends who were at risk.
The story takes place in 3 days and a lot happens...like a lot. But it's fun..there are old tales, new secrets coming out...and a lot of hot chocolate. It was exciting, adventurous and exactly what I had expected from this sequel.

Middle grade reads are entirely underrated, and while I enjoyed the first in this series more, this follow up was equally heartwarming and cozy as the first.

Some messages that this book explored that I LOVED: emotional regulation, boundaries, respect for people’s ethnicities and backgrounds, and how to communicate difficult and/or heavy emotions.

This book most definitely dragged throughout, and it could stand to lose a few pages. But honestly sometimes you just need an easy read to get lost in for a few hours. Perfect when paired with sour mike and Ike’s while reading nestled in your bed. 3.6 ⭐️
