This book didn't quite have the magic that I found in reading [b:Greenglass House|18222716|Greenglass House (Greenglass House #1)|Kate Milford|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1379952488l/18222716._SY75_.jpg|25656381] last Christmas season. What was new, glittering, and magical in the first book seemed to be old hat in this one. Milford is a talented author and her prose and plot were detailed and comprehensive. But the sparkle has worn off in [b:Ghosts of Greenglass House|29540279|Ghosts of Greenglass House (Greenglass House #2)|Kate Milford|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1501680612l/29540279._SY75_.jpg|49840706] and I'm not invested enough in this series to continue reading.

I read one of the Greenglass House books every xmas season- during the “Raw Nights.”This book is a wonderful blend of lore and logic.
While not quite as magical as the first book, I still enjoyed this book and would happily recommend it to any middle grade readers. I think that Milford hits just that right note that places Nagspeake in the real world, but a part of the real world that we just can't put our finger on. Nagspeake is as slippery as the shifting waterways and iron structures beneath the town...you can almost pin down the place and time, but then it slips away from you, a world unto itself.
Yes, the story is a little similar to the first book. But it feels like Milford might be setting up something different for a third book, and I'm curious to see what might happen next. (I'm hoping for a grand take-down of Deacon & Morvengarde, but I guess we'll have to wait and see!)

Not sure if it's 3 or 4 stars. Nice continuation of Greenglass House.
