Dr. Locke continues to impress me.

The only reason this book got 4 instead of 5 stars is that the ending was too obvious. The characters (obviously) could not see how things were going to turn out, but it's obvious to the reader. The only reason all the events are told is because they are linked, and how they are linked is clear from the beginning.

However, the writing is very good and the characters continue to be well-defined.

26 December 1880. Kathleen Hennessey's friend mary Margaret arrives late at night having been dismissed without notice or given her back wages. It seems her employer - Mrs Ashburton - has let her go because her son has arrived home after 12 years away.
Kathleen comes suspicious and wants to help solve the problem.
An enjoyable novella
