Sartre describes a fascinating Existentialist vision of Hell: Don't bother with fire and brimstone. Just take three strangers who are perfectly suited to bring out the worst in each other, and lock them in a room together. Forever. This masterpiece is the source of the saying "Hell is other people," and it beautifully illustrates the ways in which humanity is interconnected, how our own choices and perspectives can inflict torment or offer salvation, and how the meaning of our lives depends wholly on how others see us.
