4.25 Stars: Exceptional - A truly exceptional book that deserves to be celebrated for its originality, depth, and impact. It pushes the boundaries of storytelling and challenges readers to think deeply about the world around them. It’s a must-read for anyone who appreciates the power of literature to inspire, educate, and entertain.

This book made me cry. It’s sad in a very beautiful way. Short read and the prose helps carry you through the heavy parts. Leaves you reflective of life and death while somehow feel cozy and hopeful. Also cats.

I loved this book. It really made ne think about how I want to live my life in the future and what I value the most. I was sobbing at the emotional parts. The whole book was beautifully written and I will definitely add it to my faves.

What could you live without?
This book is a wonderful rumination on relationships, death, our connection to things, and decision-making. When facing death, the main character is offered the opportunity to live for another day in exchange for a worldwide erasure of the devil's choosing. The reader is shown how he makes these decisions - the motivations and what he makes of the consequences - each for a single day of existence. As the "what" becomes "who" could you live without, his calculations ultimately change and so does his fate.

This was a simply written yet poignant tale of learning to accept the complicated grief and regret that comes with knowledge of one's impending death. It's a slice of life story that focuses on a short but meaningful and transformative journey. It reflected on one's place in the world and how our presence - or that of other objects and living beings - can simultaneously be profound and miniscule. And how we can approach the days surrounding our death, should we be given the privilege of knowing it's coming.

The perspective from Cabbage the cat was bittersweet yet healing. It was difficult to read as someone trying to recover from losing a young cat suddenly and traumatically. But also brought me comfort in many ways. “For you, sir, I would gladly disappear.” 🤍
