Boring, so many slow/irrelevant bits, not thrilling at all. The only thing that made me emotional was Finch running after Cooper. Other than that, I was really disappointed with this book.

Slow to start, but picked up enough to keep my interest to the end.
It was a good enough thriller, but I wish it ended differently.

A cozy read that has a terrible ending with massive plot holes.

this was a beautiful story. one of sacrifice, love, and survival. i listened to it in about a day because i was so sucked in and enthralled by the story.

the love that cooper has for finch is heartwarming and strong. it was inspiring and touching to be able to go on the journey with them.

scotland’s sacrifice was something i did not expect, and it made me sob. it was so touching and truly the ultimate sacrifice.

this book was very close to a 5 star read for me, however, i sometimes found cooper annoying and overbearing. yes,
he went about taking finch back in a way that was unconventional and illegal, but he didn’t kill anyone???
i am not quite sure why he was so paranoid by his past when he did worse things in the military than to the judges. i also didn’t love the references to the bible & jesus, but that’s probably my own religious trauma lol.

overall, this was an emotional and heartwarming story that was twinged with anticipation. a beautifully crafted web of a story that i enjoyed listening to unravel.

Interesting enough. Reminded me of, like, My Side of the Mountain except with a murder-y subplot and war flashbacks.

Unexpectedly religious undertones that really made it more emotional. Like, I definitely didn't expect to cry while reading this book, but a couple tears slipped out.

Cooper's paranoia seemed a little unrealistic in some ways.
For example, they're from an undisclosed place, but they've relocated to a new state, ostensibly hours away from where they were. To think that anyone would recognize them after more than, like, two years is wiiiiiiild. He's not a notorious mass murderer. He kidnapped his own child and was a little rough. That's not a news story that's going to be blowing up tvs nationwide. It's just not.

BUT, the dude's mentally ill, so the unrealistic paranoia might be a feature instead of a bug.
