We received [b:Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel|1083012|Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel|Virginia Lee Burton|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1349014765s/1083012.jpg|1069773] as a gift and later Katy and the Big Snow. Burton's writing is wonderful for young children—it has a great rhythm and energy to it that makes it timeless. Katy is especially delightful because "the tougher the job the better she liked it"—she is appealing to boys and girls alike. We also have enjoyed [b:Choo Choo|992960|Choo Choo|Virginia Lee Burton|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1349017935s/992960.jpg|31273], [b:Maybelle the Cable Car|992962|Maybelle the Cable Car|Virginia Lee Burton|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1348847185s/992962.jpg|978457], and [b:The Little House|153540|The Little House|Virginia Lee Burton|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1363184334s/153540.jpg|31274]. But I think Katy and the Big Snow might be my favorite.

Read this to my son for bed time. We are studying perseverance this week in school so we picked out this book. I liked this book just as much as "Mike Mulligan". The pictures are great and the story is positive. Good read for 4 year old boys.

My students love this one: the storm, the little map, the brave and powerful plow. The only aspect of the story that makes this a lesser tale than Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel is that we know nothing about the driver.

This book is a bit long but it would be a good addition to a snow, winter, or vehicle storytime.

Love her illustrations of the town of Geopolis and the elaborately detailed frames on several spreads.

Forever torn between the length of time I have known this story, the overwhelming busyness of the artistic style, and the sweet simplicity of Burton's storytelling.

This is a children’s picture book about a snow pole named Katy and how she worked super hard on an extremely snowy day to clear the paths for everyone in the town.
