This is my first Ursula K Le Guin book, read at the recommendation of my 26 year old son. It is my second utopian story in the past few years, the first being Aldous Huxley's Island. I read this because my son suggested it in response to a request for interesting sci-fi to read.
The book was physically difficult to read, partially due to it being paperback with lots of words crammed on each cream colored page, and partially due to its containing at least six typos that jarred me out of the story each time one was encountered. In addition, a combination of Le Guin's writing style and the topography of Anarres yielded a grim, desolate place.
Nonetheless, about two-thirds of the way thru I found myself hooked into Shevek's story, his search for utopia, his love of family, his belief in Odonian philosophy. Am wondering what follow-up book to read by Le Guin, in the hopes of being exposed to another side of her writing style.

Phenomenal, liked more than LHoD - I think? More words to remember: Anarres, Urras, anarchism, Odonian, A-Io, Shevek, Takver.

Don’t cancel me but I hated this book. The world building felt tedious and came at the expense of interesting characters that I cared about. Potentially sci-fi is just not for me. Felt like a chore to read
