A compelling new police procedural. I enjoyed DI Isabel Blood, a woman happy with her job and life, and who's realistically trying to juggle work and family. Some intriguing twists and turns in this police procedural kept me happily engrossed. Hope that this is the beginning of a new series.

Thanks to HQ Digital for access to a digital arc via NetGalley.

I loved this introduction to DI Isabel Blood and her team. Like a lot of well known fictional detectives, she has a lot of baggage that haunts her and forms part of the reason she joined the police.

The story is structured in a way that made me begin to doubt virtually every character - including the hapless two who were doing up number 23... They were interesting.

Isabel's relationship with her mother was flawed and hampered her understanding of the past, I liked this element, it was such a human touch so mundane and yet so true. All those unspoken words and all those subtle ways that just exist within families - when simply talking openly could solve so much.

Overall, a nice detective story set at a good pace - surely any fan of these style of books would love it.

I received a free ARC from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

Great start to this series!
A brother and sister use their inheritance to purchase a home. They intend to make improvements for a profit - until they start digging the foundation for the kitchen add on. A skeleton is found.
Isabel is called to the scene- to discover it's the house she lived until the age of 14, when her father abandoned her mother. But did her father really leave?
Excellent start to a new series. Love the characters- I want to know about them all. I love Isabel's strength, family and her attitude.
Highly recommend.
