Interesting reflections about being human and adventurous plot. I didn't like it as much as the author's other books but that's just my personal preference.

god what a gorgeous, weird, goofy story 🥺 I'm not usually a sci-fi girl (im more on the "fantasy" side of "sci-fi/fantasty), so that's probably the only thing holding me back from a higher rating, but I loved this story and this little family so much. who knew "two gay dads adopt an alien child" could be so wonderful and yet. here we are. I love the character work, and the exploration of what it means to be human, and I love the adventures these three go on.

I do wish we had gotten some more closure on a few things. Like, why did Nate's dad do what he did? We - and Nate - never got an answer. It felt like it was leading up to something with more intention, especially after Peter entered the scene, but it just sort of faded away after the dream. and I suppose that could be an intention in and of itself - sometimes tragedy *is* senseless, and has no greater meaning or purpose, which does align with some of the other themes in the story. It just felt like that one storyline was leading somewhere, but never got there.  And was there ever anything deeper behind the comet? Or was it simply a natural phenomenon that sucked me in just like it sucked in everyone else 😂

I do love the ending of this story so much. they got the happy, peaceful ending that they deserved, and they got to *live* ❤❤❤

Sweet, funny, and moving. No one writes children like TJ Klune. I enjoyed this book’s take on
first contact
: showing that change is necessary for us and that wonderful things happen when we embrace instead of fearing it.
