Such a great end to the series! Absolutely loved it! I think this is a 5 star series which rarely happens
Love, love, love this series, all the stars from me! Enough said, Roxy out.

Okay so this is going to be a kind of unpopular opinion but I wasn't blown away by Obsidio. It's a solid finale, don't get me wrong, but this series deserved better to me. I won't make this review very long because there are so many of them out there already and I want to keep it spoiler free for the whole series in case you haven't started it yet. (Which you should, just FYI.)
First off, I did still enjoy this! It was a good book. Just... not at the level I was expecting it to be. Illuminae blew my mind when I first read it and when Gemina came out and it was almost just as awesome, I was sure this series was going to be stellar over the whole line. My expectations for this book were very high, which is to be expected. But that might have been the downfall for me. That and the hype around it. I postponed reading this for so long because I was so scared of the hype. And in the end, I was a bit right to be scared because I didn't love this book nearly as much as I wanted to. Even more, I didn't love this. I just enjoyed it. Why? Let me tell you.
Obviously this book is stunning to look at. The formatting keeps blowing my mind with it's gorgeous designs and the audiobook is just fantastic to listen to while reading the book. It's a real unique experience and I don't think any other book can offer such a thing. I also still loved the characters I've come to know and love. Of course AIDAN is on the top. His character development is amazing over the course of the series and he remains my favorite mass-murdering artificial intelligence out there. He is so precious in this final book, omg.
BUT... I felt like the pacing was all over the place. It either went too fast or too slow. I was often confused as to what even was happening and not because the science of it went over my head a bit like with the previous books. I just didn't really get what was happening because it was rushed or I didn't know what the point of something was because it was only filler. Like... the new characters introduced... I could have done without them. I didn't connect to them at all and i didn't really see the point of their POV in this book.
And the big finale was tragically underwhelming. It felt too easy. Not tragic enough. Without giving away spoilers, the stakes just didn't feel high enough and I think everything ended too easily and too pretty. Now to shout out my spoiler-y thoughts for those interested:
So overall it was a solid finale that didn't live up to the standard of the series for me. I was underwhelmed and that makes me sad because I wanted to love it so hard. But hey, I seem to be the black sheep here and I still highly recommend reading this series because it's stunning and epic even if the finale didn't really deliver for me personally.

Yes, so the ending was too easy. I was spoiled that Ezra and Nik would survive but even if I wasn't I wouldn't have been happy with it because it's SUCH a cop out. The stakes weren't nearly as high as with the other two books while they should have been double as high. Everyone survived this epic thing and i just don't believe it. It also had kind of an open ending with AIDAN so what was that about??So overall it was a solid finale that didn't live up to the standard of the series for me. I was underwhelmed and that makes me sad because I wanted to love it so hard. actual rating 4.5
Can I start off by saying, that even though this is my lowest rated book in the trilogy this was a damn great finale! I felt like the first portion of the story dragged but the secind half of the book flew by and was so action packed! I enjoyed all of the new characters and I am in love with the way the Aidan/Kady dynamic unfolded in this. they were easily my favorite part of this book. My only major complaint with this book is the fact that I never, at any point in the book, fekt like our main squad was in danger. So I lost out on any emotional punch it. That aside the final chapter was spot on and I shed a small tear. Overall this is a fabulous and fun sci-fi trilogy that has further solidified Jay as a god among men in my eyes and Aimee as a queen of sci-fi. I really had a blast with this book!
