Another good book in the Cat in the Stacks series. I always love following Charlie and Diesel along on adventures. In this book, Charlie has to preserve a set of diaries that could help a political candidate establish his legacy in the town. Suddenly, a bunch of people are interested in getting their hands on the books and Charlie has to track down a murderer.

Cozy murder mystery revolving around diaries from the Civil war era and of courser murder. Here I go again and run head first in an series this time book number six. Must be more careful and look up the books before reading them. But it's has its charm going in blind. I enjoyed the book nevertheless and didn't think I've missed to much for me to enjoy this case but I'm curious to read other books in this series. And I just have to add that this book does include a cat!! Not just to draw you in on the cover.

One of my favorite series because of the setting, the characters, the relationships of the characters, especially the one between Charlie Harris and Diesel the Maine Coon cat. I like that it is there but not overwhelmingly so. Each offers the other comfort and companionship.
The mystery here is intricate and old as well as current. The Civil War plays heavily here and a set of diaries from that time. Plenty of red herrings tossed about to muddy the water and keep the pages turning happily.
This was the perfect book that I brought in my work bag just in case it got quiet at some point. It didn't but we did get a new puppy and the book kept me company while I kept the puppy company out in the back garden while he wore himself out each afternoon and evening the last couple of days.
I can definitely recommend this book, series and author.
