I really enjoyed this book and I would recommend it to anyone who liked ACOTAR. While the Main Male isn't up to ACOTAR standards, I liked the world building and plot a lot. It has a good amount of foreshadowing if you want to look deeper into things. I'll definitely be reading the rest of this series!

I really wasn’t sure I was going to finish this book. But something kept me coming back to it. And by the half way point I was so much more intrigued than when it started it. This book really came out of left field for me. I enjoyed the fact that magic system is different than most of the fae romantasy books out there. I didn't love the type of possessiveness that the MMC showed but it wasn't a deal breaker for me. This is not as slow as some slow burn books have been, there's at least some spice in the first book. But it does take a while to get there.

Entertaining, steady pace, spice that doesn’t overpower the plot, interesting enough world-building and system of magic without being overwhelming. A bit twisty, with a good setup for book #2. All in all, enjoyable and easy to get through.

I really like this story. I'm not a huge fan of various POVs, but it really did work for the storytelling. It is a story of discovery and rebellion that doesn't take itself too seriously.

To me, the narrative is an oberservational view of what powe can do. How power can corrupt and how if wielded by those with ill intentions, it can be used to to oppress, limit access, and create a history that is believed by the masses.

Fantasy romance with forced proximity (one horse trope), found family and enemies to lovers / forbidden romance. Revenge, bargains & betrayal. Interesting and unique magic system.

Mostly I really liked the book and the FMC. The pace was a bit slow to my taste in the middle of the book and it felt like there wasn’t really anything interesting going on but I liked both the beginning and end. End had some nice twist, some I was able to guess beforehand but some were a surprise.

Definitely going to read the rest of the series.

I wanted to love this book. I read it because a friend recommended it for her Fourth Wing book hangover. The actual plot was ok. I felt like this had good bones but poor execution. The connection between the main male character and the main female character is not fleshed out at all and made the romance a bit off putting if I'm being honest. The main female character seems cool AF and I would've liked this book better if the main male character just wasn't in it.

Loved this book! I felt like there was always something happening for good reason. I really love the concept and story, just want to be a bit more invested in the MMC. He lacked some character development to give the book a bit more depth. Love the FMC so much - strong, independent take over the world type with some imposter syndrome, gotta love it.
