This was my audiobook of choice for solo trail runs all summer 2021. The quote “sometimes facts are poetry” sums it up nicely.

This book changes your relationship with the world around you, even if you already have a pretty unconventional relationship with the earth. If Kimmerer's insight on how Indigenous people viewed the world as something we are part of (as opposed to something that is simply there for our use) leaves you untouched, then you have a cold, dead heart! She seamlessly weaves scientific info into indigenous wisdom, in turn proving that older generations were in tune to plant wisdom way before science was.

Yes, it did take me this long to read this book. That's because I savored it more than I have any other book in my life. I read a chapter and then thought about it for the next several days, sometimes very actively and other times letting it sink into me. One lovely result of reading this book is that it inspired me to get involved; I found an amazing group who works on restoring a local greenbelt and I now volunteer with them every week. It's the highlight of my week; I'm learning so much from the group leaders and from the forest themself. A million thank you's to Robin Wall Kimmerer for writing this book that is medicine and a call to action.
