Yeahhh, I think this will be the last book of this series I listen to. The author at this point is just grasping for material to write about. Also guessed the plot twist.

Side note, for some reason the narrator kept smacking throughout the whole reading and it honestly bothered me so much… same narrator for the next one and I just cannot do it lol.

Lacked creativity. Jade an irrelevant character was brought into the fold. Passive, Annette is annoying as usual. What adult includes "a child" in their marital affairs? This is a predictable waste of time. Nothing like the previous installments. Disappointed with this book Ms. Mary Monroe.

I knew the ending early on in the book. The foreshadowing was far too much.

Disclosure: I won this book in a Giveaway.

God Don’t Play is the third installment of what started off as a great series and picks up some years later from the last installment. In this one we find Annette married to her childhood friend, raising a six-year-old daughter, advancing her career and fending off hateful attacks from an anonymous stalker with the help of BFF Rhoda and her seventeen-year-old daughter Jane.

I found it emotionally draining the number of times other characters and even Annette herself would put herself down in this book. Yes, she's overweight and that comes with some self-esteem issues and other criticisms but to have EVERYONE she came across to find her disgusting? And then there was her unhealthy and unethical relationship with Jane. I understand Jane is not her child and she wants to respect Rhoda's parenting but as an adult, a line should still be drawn especially if you're a mother of a daughter as well. It boggled my mind that she constantly referred to Jane as being like a daughter to her but not actually treating her like she would her own daughter.

Also, I figured out by page 52 that Jane was the anonymous tormentor; it was kind of obvious with all of her passive-aggressive comments and then that scene where she's emitting some hostile vibes towards Annette while she slept. So most of this book was me waiting for Annette to catch up and the inevitable showdown that would ensue between her and Rhoda over her precious baby-girl.

There also seemed to be some discrepancy about who knew about Annette's abuse growing up. It has been many years since I've read the first two books so it might just be me forgetting events that had taken place. I know Rhoda knew and I vaguely remember her telling Peewee in the second installment. But she also told her mom and Scary Mary? Early in the book, Annette alludes to not being able to tell anyone of the abuse because then the manner of Mr. Boatwright's death would come into question only to later claim that she had at some point told her mom and Scary Mary.

Overall, it was an okay read. Slightly entertaining but way too predictable and that kind of took the fun out of it. I'll probably pick up the next book out of a compulsive need to finish the series but most likely it wouldn't be anytime soon.

I didn't like this one nearly as much as the first two. Trying to decide if #4 is worth my time or the series has fallen off.
