Fun to read while traveling in Macedonia and gave some perspective on the 20th century history in Greece.

My 5th one for Victoria Hislop’s. They are a bit formulaic (same characters, similar plot) but what makes them special is the historic backdrop. The BEST way to learn your history!!! And even if they are samey ..... the stories are great.

I read The Islsnd, several years ago and remember enjoying it very much. One of the things I like about historical fiction is what I learn about different places in years gone by. The Thread tells the story of the Greek city, Thessaloniki, by way of a family's history. the writing is quiet and understated and though I found the ending too quickly and neatly wrapped up, I enjoyed the journey.
