This book was both heartbreaking and inspiring. It's absolutely amazing what that little boy lived through and what he was able to overcome.

Like some previous reviews I give 5 stars for the courage of all the boy soldiers! But the writing is not 5 stars.
The story is engaging and I feel a good mix of reality without being so detailed as to put off the reader. At times it is very hard to follow and skips around.
The chronology is very good to give a frame of reference. I felt it ended abruptly and would like an epilogue to give some closure.
This book was great at describing the mind frame of the recently rescued boys and makes me want to be more patient with the reactions of troubled youth.

An amazing memoir. I hope he is always well.
emotional hopeful

Amazing story and well written. I wish there had been more at the end about the author's move to New York. The book seemed to end abruptly.

This was equal parts devastating and filled with hope. I finished it a few months ago and am still processing it. It's beautifully told and will stay with me for a long time.
