While there is some repetition, generally this is a moving tale about the life of a child soldier. My students love it because most of them have no idea that child soldiers even exist.

I really enjoyed this book and I wanted more about the next phase of his life.

Excellent. This is a modern tragedy that everyone should hear. Beah kept me glued to the pages of this book with his amazing story-telling ability.

Very good true story! I found myself having to remind myself that this is a true story. I could also tell how young the author was when experiencing some of these gruesome events just by the way he described them in his writing. It is a sad reality what some young, young children went through in Sierra Leone.

Tough to read at times (due to the nature of the conflict) but an utterly amazing/harrowing story. Just...wow.

Loved it! It was totally compelling and altough Beah's life has been horrific, it wasn't a depressing story at all. I totally recommend it.

Brutal and haunting.

Greatest book in the world. Really opens your eyes to reality. New Favorite Book!
