Not a lot of this mystery actually focuses on the mystery. Instead it is a portrait of Hemingway, his Cuban worshipers, and his detractors. I never wanted to read Hemingway and I still don't. Too much machismo.

The story and idea behind this book were incredible, but the writing was so not my cup of tea. Way too many pointless descriptions and not enough dialog. I just couldn't get into it. Everything else was done really well — I found the mystery part and characters rather interesting.

Part biography, part fiction - a strange, difficult read.
