I really want to round up to 3.5 stars… it had so much potential. The plot was good, it just dragged on for way too long. Should have been at least 50+ pages less. Also, I didn’t realize going into this that it’s a YA read, that matters. Im also not sure if I knew there was going to be a paranormal feel to this one. A decent read tho. Jen and Rhys are the MVP’s of this book.

I've always liked things like criptids and urban legends, and horror had always been close to my heat. This book had all of that, which a gripping story and compelling characters. I liked it a lot!

For years the quiet town of Doubtful has been plagued by a monster. Known only as The Stitcher, this fearsome killer kidnaps those who don't abide by the rules of Doubtful and linger alone late at night or don't travel in pairs. The victims are found weeks or months later stitched together in red thread with others who've been killed in a gruesome macabre display that strikes fear into the residents.

Abby has lived in the town her whole life, watching the posters of missing persons go up and living in constant fear. She's desperate to save enough money to move her and her sister Hope out of Doubtful, but something awful happens before she can act on her plans. The Stitcher takes Hope.

Usually, young adult books don't unsettle me, but the imagery in Where He Can't Find You actually gave me chills. This book is dark, unnerving, sinister, and incredibly eerie. Horrific in the best way, completely overdelivering the horror elements and tying them up in a well-written and engaging plotline. The small cast of teenagers at the heart of the book are compelling, with genuine bonds and likeable traits that make the reader root for them, and aside from Hope, I found myself lost in their conversations and struggles, desperate for them to succeed. If only this book had just a tiny bit more pacing and depth towards the conclusion, it would have been perfect.

Reminiscent of IT and Stranger Things, Where He Can't Find You is a thrilling YA book that proves once again that Darcy Coates is a brilliant versatile author, and someone who is quickly moving towards auto-buy status.
