This book was an artistic delight! I knew nothing about the characters other than of course that Hawthorne wrote A Scarlet Letter. The range of experiences and emotions were enthralling. A truly expressive love story.

Beautiful and atmospheric. Another fascinating look into the life of a historical woman.

*** I received an ARC copy of this book from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review

This is the story of Sophie and Nathaniel Hawthorne. I really enjoyed the insight into their lives..... their love story was magical and they were truly partners until the very end. The story was captivating, so much so that you felt as if you were there with them. I would recommend this to anyone who loves historical fiction

I've never read any of Nathaniel Hawthorne's work but after reading this book I think I'll have to. Although the book seems a little slow, and long at parts it was truly a good read. It felt like you were there, watching their courtship and marriage.

What a wonderful book. I have read two of Erika Robuck's previous books (I need to get my hands on a copy of Hemingway's Girl) and enjoyed them immensely so she has cemented her place on my "will read anything this author ever writes list".

When I started to read this book I knew next to nothing about Nathaniel Hawthorne other than he is the author of The Scarlet Letter, a book that I enjoyed when I read it in high school. I was delighted to learn more about him in this book; but even more I was fascinated to learn about his wife Sophia. She was a strong woman who loved with her whole heart and soul and seemed to be just as talented as her husband. As I read I felt as if I was in her head. Ms. Robuck did such a wonderful job of writing her; it's as if she was her own personal close friend. The writing in this book is superb and I recommend it to anyone who is a fan of historical fiction.

I don't usually read historical fiction, so it definitely wasn't my favorite book. However, once I got into it, it was very good!
