Bukowski for boring people

I seriously detested this book, and the scene in Silver Lining’s Playbook where Bradley Cooper’s character throws the book out of a window upon reading the ending sums up my reaction pretty well.

Heartbreaking.

i read the book while listening to what it is by mark knopfler and it truly hit different i wont ever be the same

Hemingway’s dialogue is electric. This book is about life, love, friendship, and loyalty. It just so happens to tell it through the lens of an American man serving as an ambulance driver in an Italian unit in WWI who falls in love with an English nurse.

I gave him an extra star because obviously the writing is very good but all said and done, I hated the story. The love story aspect was fine- but I was bored throughout. If it wasn’t written by one of the most well known names in literature I probably wouldn’t have finished it just because of that. But then to have the ending be increasingly more and more depressing until basically a life-sucks-and-everything-good-dies, THE END….are you for real? I’m sure people will go on about how that’s why it’s deep but I disagree. I read a lot of classics and definitely don’t mind darkness and heaviness but this was just depressing and nihilistic. It’s a no for me dawg.
