5 Stars all the way.
Nathan White, the man-the psycho that you are, I'll take 10.
This story follows Kayla King and Nathan White - Leader of the Kings gang and a man dead set on ruling the world and owning Kayla King. These two have history and Nathan comes on scene salavating for revenge. After all, 4 years prior, Kayla testified under oath and had him sent to prison. Bad right? What's worse-She lied to do it.
But secrets, they are burrowed deep in Kayla. Secrets she desperately wants to keep hidden from him. The question is can she?
There is a brutal push and pull between these two characters and I will be the first person to admit the chemistry was so good between them both I couldn't stop reading. I felt her struggle to get away, the confusion of feelings that tumbled through her and the utter contradiction of feeling safe with the monster. But it wasn't just about Nathan for her--Kayla is ruled by loyalty and responsibility for her people on the North Shore. When that control is ripped from her grasp, we see her have to learn to work around him or accept his demands and slip into her feminine energy and allow him to take care of her. Easier, so much easier said than done.
Then, we grow into Nathan and see his dark abyss of a soul begin to morph and materialize into a being that is desperate to understand how Kayla feels. He lacks the ability to feel things or recognize emotions but he can learn them. He deems it his mission to understand because it will make her destruction easier. All best laid plans go up in flames for both.
They are the collision of a hurricane, a tsunami as they both are hitting land.
There is war between them and as that ebbs and flows; the war then rages around them. We see the gang dynamics become unstable as between the both rival gangs fight to dominate; the power struggle between Nathan and his need to take all the power around him from mafia groups, and then the unifying both rival gangs from Nathan. Both sides kicked and screamed through it.
Sacrifices are made and so is enemies.
This book was so good. I loved every single thing about Nathan and the firey attitude of Kayla. She was fierce but she laid her armour down and let him be her protector, her man, and father to their kids. It was such a satisying read that I did not want to end.
The ending of book was perfection. We experienced loss and triumph. To the author--WELL F'ing DONE!
