The writing was quite bland. Switching narrators every chapter (none of whom were compelling) plus breaking up the already short chapters with "non-fiction" quotes at the start gave me whiplash; there was too much context switching for me to really wrap my head around anything or feel invested in any of it. Unfortunately, the audio didn't help either.

As beautiful as this book is on the outside, it absolutely holds up upon reading!! An at-times over my head discussion of consciousness and its various forms with multiple perspectives following seemingly unconnected plots that come together at the enddddd?! Ugh. Love.

This is a fascinating look into the similarities and differences between the ways humans communicate with each other, and other species .. including technology.

There’s a heavy focus on octopuses which I particularly enjoyed. I’ve always been fascinated by how/why octopuses are so intelligent when they are not very social. This book explores what might happen if they were…

This book touches on so much, what it means to be alive, the concept of communication and the consequences of the technology we’ve built.

If you’re a fan of sci-fi, I think you’ll like this book.
