I will never forget watching the made for TV miniseries Small Sacrifices as a child. For a long time after watching it whenever my mom would take us on a drive, I was afraid she wanted to kill us (Sorry Mom!). I have done some research and was quite familiar with this case, but I thought it was finally time to read this book. Ann Rule does a great job of relaying what Diane's personality was like. The book includes a lot of transcripts from Diane's own dairies as well as police and press interviews. The book begins as Diane pulls up to the hospital and continues throughout the police investigation and trial. The book is well-researched and gives many details not found elsewhere. This is a truly chilling yet fascinating case. I highly recommend this one to anyone interested in true crime.

This is the second Ann Rule book I've almost DNF-ed. Unfortunately, I don't think her writing style is for me. While some moments of this book were very impactful and educational, most of it was a slog. Perhaps it is because I came in with some information about the case so I may have not been as captivated/engrossed, but it just seemed overally detailed and more of a textbook than a storybook to me.
That being said, it is INCREDIBLY detailed so the information present is 10/10, just wish it was presented in a way that didn't make me fall asleep immediately.

Aside from the cop love bit I really enjoy Ann Rule.

So good
Ann dives head first into this heart breaking story of a mother who committed the most heinous crime any mother possibly could.
