I love Death Vader as a character and it was an easy read.

So I have been watching all things star wars since I can remember, but this was the first book I read. I wasn't sure if I was going to like it or not. It turned out to be so good. I loved learning more about tarkin and how he got where he was. The time before Luke and just all the politics. I read part and listened to the audio book and that made the experso much more immersive. I am definitely looking forward to reading more about the universe.

Well, I did it. I read 20 Star Wars books in 2021, which I think may be the most Star Wars books anyone has ever read in 1 year. Why did I do it? Let's just say I was dared, and if you know me... you know I never back down from a dare.

So, where does Tarkin by James Luceno rank among the 20 Star Wars books that I read? To be honest, that's hard to answer, as it's about as mediocre as all of them. Now, hear me out. James Luceno is probably the most technically competent Star Wars writer I've read this year (other books of his I've read include the pre-Rogue One novel "Catalyst", Darth Plagueis, and The Rise of Darth Vader, which takes place directly after Revenge of the Sith). He's an expert at "the dark side" of the Universe, you could say. However, while his books are much richer and more explorative than other, more "fan-fic" style writers are, they can come off pretty dry and uninteresting... and Tarkin is probably the biggest offender of the bunch.

I mean, what does one really need to know about the Grand Moff that we didn't already get from the New Hope movie (or, I guess, Rogue One)? Apparently not much, as he's not even the biggest star of his own book! Palpatine, Vader, and a group of pirates take center stage here, and Tarkin is still just moved around the board like he's always been. The most they give him is that it's his own ship that the pirates hijack, and then they just make him look like a big dummy trying to chase it around and blow it up!!

I was morbidly interested in seeing what the hell they were gonna do with Tarkin (in a Disney Canon novel, no less!), which is why I chose it for the closing book of my big 2021 Star Wars dare. Fittingly, like all the books themselves, it was a big fat letdown to end things. Let's just say, me and Star Wars? We're going on a break!

Tarkin recuerda su pasado, pasea en su poderosa nave Carrion Spike, supervisa la construcción de la estación espacial y sobre todo, se dedica a la persecución de unos piratas, que ingeniosamente, robaron su nave.
