This was a fifth grade reading group book when I was a kid, and I really enjoyed reading it as an adult. Never gets old

Short and Sweet

I thoroughly enjoyed this story. It's short and sweet, good for anyone looking for a quick, heartwarming read. Many people would say it has flaws or is shallow, but this book is like that on purpose. It's not really a book-- it's a picture. It's art. I did get a little lost, though, during the places where it switches rapidly back and forth between the past and the present. Overall, I give it 4 stars.

Quick good read. Nearly made me cry a couple times. Really enjoyed the story and the writing. It's not perfect, but for how short it is, the problems don't really matter. Just a very wholesome and touching story of a girl finding where she belongs and learning to be loved.

This was on my daughter's reading list for the summer, so I thought I'd read it too so we could discuss it together. It is the story of an abandoned 12-year old girl who doesn't fit in to the many foster homes where she's been placed so her solution is to eventually run from each. It is sad and sweet, and Hollis is not a typical character easily summed up. She is an artist, and, much of the story is told through her drawings and her stories that go along with the drawings. A great book for middle school kids.

A heartwarming story I read aloud with my kids. The writing and details and timeline left something to be desired, but we enjoyed reading it and loved the ending.

I cried for the entire last section of the book! It is powerfully written, and Hollis is a delightful main character. I want to read this with my 4th and 5th graders.

Student book club (reread). A bit slow to start, but with an absolute heart warming ending. Really enjoy this one.
